Connecticut works differently from most states: enrolling with Medicaid is the same as joining its network. HUSKY Health runs through administrative services organizations instead of competing managed care plans, so a correct enrollment through ctdssmap.com puts your clinicians in network. Commercial plans and Medicare still credential separately, and every one of them has its own cycle. Maximum Billing provides credentialing services for Connecticut practices, from the Enrollment Wizard to commercial contracts, CAQH, and re-enrollment.

How HUSKY Health’s Network Works
Connecticut Medicaid, branded HUSKY Health, is administered by the Department of Social Services (DSS). Its fiscal agent, Gainwell Technologies, processes enrollment, and the DSS Quality Assurance Unit approves or denies it. Rather than competing managed care plans, HUSKY Health relies on three administrative services organizations:
- Medical: Community Health Network of Connecticut
- Behavioral health: Carelon, through the Connecticut Behavioral Health Partnership
- Dental: BeneCare, through the Connecticut Dental Health Partnership
That means no separate plan contract after enrollment. Our Connecticut Medicaid provider enrollment guide walks through the Wizard.
The Enrollment Wizard Leaves No Room for Errors
There is no saving partway through the ctdssmap.com Enrollment Wizard and no editing once it is submitted; any correction has to be mailed to Gainwell. Before we open it, we gather the tax ID, owner details, NPI and taxonomy, license numbers, the full ZIP+4 for each address, banking details for the required electronic funds transfer, the W-9, and ownership disclosures. Clinicians who work under an organization cannot submit until the organization is actively enrolled, so we enroll the group first.
Behavioral Health Credentialing in Connecticut
For HUSKY Health, every psychologist, LCSW, LMFT, LPC, and LADC has to finish Carelon’s clinic training and return a signed attestation, and a missing attestation is one of the usual reasons an application sits. These clinicians may order and refer for HUSKY members; prescribing is outside their enrollment. For commercial coverage, many plans use a separate behavioral health company with its own application. See our mental and behavioral health credentialing services and Connecticut mental health billing services.
Dental Credentialing in Connecticut
Dental benefits are managed through BeneCare and the Connecticut Dental Health Partnership, but dentists still enroll through ctdssmap.com. Dentists also re-enroll more often than other clinicians, every 24 months. See our dental credentialing services.
Re-enrollment Schedules
The April 2026 Enrollment Criteria Matrix sets a five-year (60-month) re-enrollment cycle for physicians, APRNs, and behavioral health clinicians and a two-year (24-month) cycle for dentists. DSS sends a notice roughly six months before each due date, and the ATN printed on it is what you use to re-enroll. Commercial plans re-credential on their own cycles, which we track alongside the state dates.
How Long It Takes in Connecticut
DSS describes HUSKY Health enrollment as a matter of several weeks, with direct deposit setup adding roughly four to six. Start dates can be made retroactive by as much as six months; going further back needs DSS sign-off. Commercial credentialing usually takes longer than HUSKY Health enrollment, so it often sets the real start date for a new clinician.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a separate managed care contract for HUSKY Health?
No. HUSKY Health uses administrative services organizations, so enrolling through ctdssmap.com is how you join the network.
Can I fix a mistake in the ctdssmap.com Enrollment Wizard?
Not online. The Wizard cannot be edited after submission, and corrections go to Gainwell on paper, which is why we prepare everything before starting.
What do behavioral health clinicians need for HUSKY Health?
Each psychologist, LCSW, LMFT, LPC, and LADC finishes Carelon’s clinic training and signs its attestation.
How often do Connecticut providers re-enroll?
Every 60 months for physicians, APRNs, and behavioral health clinicians, and every 24 months for dentists.
