Maximum Billing

Missouri sends Medicaid enrollment through an audit and compliance unit rather than its claims contractor, and that unit has paperwork rules most practices don’t expect, starting with refusing a W-9 as proof of tax ID. Maximum Billing provides credentialing services for Missouri practices, covering MO HealthNet enrollment, managed care plans, commercial plans, Medicare, and CAQH, with every date tracked through revalidation.

Missouri Credentialing Services

  • MO HealthNet enrollment through eMOMED or an MMAC paper packet, depending on provider type.
  • The Business Organizational Structure (BOS) form, completed and hand-signed.
  • The right IRS tax ID document, not the W-9 MMAC rejects.
  • Managed care plan credentialing with each MO HealthNet plan.
  • MCO-network-only enrollment for clinicians who will not see fee-for-service patients.
  • Commercial plans and Medicare, including PECOS.
  • CAQH ProView setup and upkeep.
  • Revalidation tracking in eMOMED.

MO HealthNet and MMAC

The Department of Social Services’ MO HealthNet Division runs Missouri Medicaid, but enrollment is handled separately by its Provider Enrollment Unit within Missouri Medicaid Audit & Compliance (MMAC). Proof of tax ID has to come from the IRS with your name and number already printed, like a CP-575 or a 147C letter (a Social Security card also works); MMAC turns away W-9s and 1099s. Business entities also need Missouri Secretary of State registration and a signed Title XIX Participation Agreement. Applications are worked in the order received, and a returned application loses its place, so we send complete packages only. Our Missouri Medicaid provider enrollment guide covers MMAC’s steps.

Managed Care in Missouri

MO HealthNet enrollment has been mandatory for every managed care network provider, including ordering and referring clinicians, since January 1, 2018. Clinicians who only want managed care networks can use MMAC’s MCO Network Provider applications. The plans are:

  • Healthy Blue
  • Home State Health
  • UnitedHealthcare
  • Show-Me Healthy Kids (Home State Health’s plan for children in foster care and similar groups)

Behavioral Health and Dental Credentialing

Missouri enrolls behavioral health clinicians under provider type 49, covering LPCs, LCSWs, LMSWs, and psychologists, plus provisional LPCs and provisional psychologists. Dentists enroll as provider type 40. Individual practitioners, dentists included, are exempt from the application fee. See our mental and behavioral health credentialing services, Missouri mental health billing services, and Missouri dental billing services.

Revalidation and Timelines

MO HealthNet revalidates at least every five years, with due dates shown in eMOMED, and MMAC added an off-cycle revalidation in May 2026 for some high-risk provider types, due in October 2026 or March 2027. MMAC’s flow chart says enrollment takes 30 or more days, and plan credentialing follows, so allow a few months before seeing managed care members.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why won’t MMAC accept my W-9?

MMAC only accepts IRS-issued proof showing your name and tax ID, such as a CP-575 or 147C letter, or a Social Security card.

Which plans serve MO HealthNet members?

Healthy Blue, Home State Health, UnitedHealthcare, and Show-Me Healthy Kids, which serves children in foster care.

Can a Missouri clinician join managed care networks only?

Yes. MMAC offers MCO Network Provider applications that do not require seeing fee-for-service patients.

Can provisional licensees enroll in Missouri Medicaid?

Yes. Provisional LPCs and provisional psychologists are among the clinicians Missouri enrolls under provider type 49.
